(n.) one who supports or promotes another's interests

I’m here to serve you.
— John Bang, Attorney

The law is an important part of today's world. Everyone ends up facing it at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, the legal process is often expensive, confusing, and intimidating. The key to keeping your sanity through a legal ordeal is to work with an attorney you can trust. My goal is to become that attorney for you.

Who am I?

I am a Christian. And although that can create political and social divide in today's world, it is important to me that others know that Jesus is who encourages me to serve rather than be served. My goal in life is not to gain money, power, or fame, but it is to serve those who have been placed around me.

As an attorney, I have acquired a set of skills that can be used to serve others. That is what I intend to do.

My friends call me John Bang.

My name is Jiung Bang and I was born in South Korea. I moved to the US as a child and as a result I understand cultural differences and language barriers. Life can also be complex and people can be complicated. Moving to a different country is a difficult transition that presents many challenges. I experienced that transition and I want to help others with it as well. That's why I practice immigration law.

I live in Portland, Oregon with my (non-traditional) family. Many of my family members and I have a number of businesses together (coffee, cigar, rafting, construction). That's why I went into law and that's also how I understand what it is like to start and manage a business.

Am I Qualified to Represent You?

I studied philosophy at Reed College and received my law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School. But I believe that what qualifies me most to represent you is that I have encountered a diverse set of experiences. Whether it be religious, political, social, or cultural, I believe it is the diversity of ideas that I have engaged over the years that enables me to be empathetic and creative when it comes to advocating the interests of my clients.

What can I do for you?

Business Law

I keep your business out of court (because lawsuits take a lot of time and cost a lot of money).

Did I tell you about all my business ventures? Legal work is only a part of entrepreneurship. I'm here to help fit all the puzzle pieces together.

Some of the things I deal with to protect both your personal and business interests are:

  • Entity formation
  • Contract drafting, negotiation, and review
  • Employment issues
  • Landlord/tenant matters
  • Legal risk management
  • Compliance with federal, state, and local law

Immigration Law

Uprooting is never an easy thing, but people do crazy things for love. Whether love for a person, job, or culture, moving often has to do with a kind of love. And we all know that love is so much more than a piece of paper. So I'm here to help, not just with the paperwork, but with proper advocacy during changing times.

I can help with:

  • Naturalization process
  • Work visas
  • Religious visas
  • Family-based immigration

If you didn't know already, I also speak Korean.

Estate Planning

Whether young or old, the time comes when people think about their stuff and the people they care about. Estate planning is all about making sure your stuff goes to the right people, not the wrong ones (like the IRS).

For young parents, estate planning is like insurance: planning for the worst but hoping that you never need it. It's about setting up the future of your children in case something were to happen to you. Not just financially, but who do you trust to raise your children the way you would want them to be raised?

If your children have all grown up, estate planning is about ensuring your final wishes are heard and the probate process is smooth and easy for your children (and maybe even saving on taxes!).
